About us

Who we are

Founded by five Latin American women passionate about sharing their heritage, Hablamos Español is dedicated to keeping the Spanish language and Latin American culture alive in our community. We are committed to bringing people together through language and culture, inspiring a love for the richness and diversity of Latin America.

With over 300 Spanish-speaking families in the region, our goal is to create a school where children can learn to speak, read, and write Spanish while connecting with their roots. We also want to provide opportunities for partners, family members, friends, and others in the community to learn Spanish—a language spoken by over 600 million people and the official language of 21 regions around the world.

Hablamos Español is a member of the Hunter Community Language School Network and we proud to be the first Spanish Community Language School in the Hunter and Newcastle region!

FAQs

How is your Spanish Language School different from other language schools?

Our Spanish Language School differs from others by using TPRS (Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling) and story-listening methods, emphasising natural language acquisition through meaningful and engaging input. This approach makes learning fun, interactive, and practical, helping students internalise vocabulary and grammar effortlessly while improving listening comprehension for real-world communication.

Do I need to have Latin American background or speak Spanish to join?

Not at all! Our school welcomes anyone eager to learn Spanish and explore the rich culture of Latin America—no prior background or Spanish-speaking experience is needed.

What levels of Spanish do you teach?

We provide Spanish classes for learners at every level—whether you’re a beginner, an intermediate student, or seeking advanced fluency. Everyone has a place on their Spanish language journey!

Do you offer cultural events or activities?

Absolutely! We enhance the language learning experience through vibrant cultural events and activities that bring the rich traditions and spirit of Latin America to our students.
